Presenting the 2017 UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television Fellowship in Film Award...

Daniela Hoyos was born in Cali, Colombia, and raised by her grandparents who loved and supported her through all her artistic achievements. She studied at Bennett School, where she was the child who sat in the corner designing characters as she conceived long stories to tell her friends. Since she was very young, she knew where her strengths lie and what her dream was – to create elaborate, surreal worlds with imaginative characters that still spoke of raw and complicated human emotions. Daniela then went to Bogotá, where she studied Graphic Design in the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University, as it was the closest subject offered to Illustration and Animation, which would become her tool to tell these stories. As soon as she finished her studies there, she knew she had to continue following a more specific path, and so she came to California to study Animation at the Animation Workshop at UCLA. She has spent the last three years studying at the UCLA Animation Workshop, which has not only allowed her to develop her own language, but has also allowed her to meet contacts and find the tools to make her dreams a reality.
