When someone chooses to watch a movie, several things are considered. Whether it's where they prefer to watch it or what snacks they choose to eat, everything affects how enjoyable a movie is. Some movies require a specific environment to provide the proper storytelling experience, while some movies are fit to be watched in nearly any setting. Movies are a form of art that will often attempt to captivate the audience through not only what can be seen and heard, but also through emotions and atmosphere. Therefore, movies often need to be seen in the right environment for the proper experience. A particular movie that must be seen on the big screen is The Quiet Place because quality equipment and a suspenseful atmosphere are required to generate the most appealing environment that only a movie theater can provide.

In 2018 John Krasinski directed The Quiet Place, which became widely known for its unique and captivating experience. The story consists of a family that is living a post-apocalyptic life in which they cannot make any noise because they are surrounded by creatures that will hunt them down and kill them. Using this plot, Krasinski was able to incorporate the use of sound on a level beyond that of a typical movie. He was able to utilize and manipulate the silence to incite more suspense among the audience. This leads to the first and most important reason The Quiet Place must be seen on the big screen.

The ongoing suspense throughout the movie is only fully obtainable when being watched on the big screen. The dark and indulging atmosphere that a movie theater provides is ideal because the audience is free of distractions and their full attention is directed toward the movie. I can recall the day I watched The Quiet Place for the first time. Hearing every little sound like it was right behind me provided an aspect to the movie that was not the same when I watched it at home a few months later. Something about a suspense movie and a large dark room makes for a special experience. On top of the particularly beneficial atmosphere, seeing The Quiet Place on the big screen is also excellent for another key reason.

Watching The Quiet Place on the big screen is also ideal because of the high-quality equipment that a theater encompasses. Movie theaters are surrounded by powerful speakers and echo-proof walls. On top of a great sound system, theaters also have a bigger screen that makes any television look pathetic. One reason these features are important has to do with the character's use throughout the movie. One of the main characters in the film, Regan, is a young deaf girl that is forced to make no sound, while also not being able to hear. This trait that she possesses was used throughout the movie to give the audience a unique and silent perspective that was able to generate suspense. Having the echo-proof walls and utter darkness in a theater while silent scenes from her perspective occur is far more rewarding than having to hear outside noises at home. For example, the movie may transition to her perspective and go completely silent, but outside dogs are barking and birds are chirping. Because of these distractions at home, the deaf effect that The Quiet Place provides is not so silent anymore.

Another reason The Quiet Place is best watched with proper equipment in a theater is that the movie makes great use of visuals and graphics, which are best displayed on the big screen. In one scene, the youngest child is being approached by a creature, which uses intricate and detailed visual effects that a normal television could not express. Without being able to get the full impact in each scene, the movie is less emotional and overall less impactful on the viewer. This goes to show that small details make a big difference whether it is the atmosphere or the surrounding equipment.

In summary, The Quiet Place is one of those movies that is not the same if you watch it from home. There are several perks that theaters provide in terms of the movie's effect on the audience. The ability to provide a proper environment and atmosphere is critical. The other key feature in theaters that makes The Quiet Place so much better is the equipment because it allows the movie to perform to its full effect, including sound and visuals. Combining The Quiet Place's next-level directing and plot with a movie theater makes for a wonderful movie that everyone should experience. Besides, you can't get that delicious popcorn at home.
