Morgan Harrington

I believe there are many aspects that make up the movie theater experience: smelling the freshly made popcorn in the air, debating which type of candy to buy, searching for the perfect seat to settle into. The feeling of sitting with a bunch of strangers that are hoping that they will love the movie they paid to see. I believe any movie should be watched on the big screen first, but Pitch Perfect (2012) is the one I think anyone and everyone should watch in a theater.

Pitch Perfect was a smash in the box office, making more than $115 million worldwide when it premiered in 2012 and has had a lasting impact thanks to its earworm songs and quotable script. With a wide range of characters with different sexualities and races, and two sequel movies, there is something for everyone. I remember being in middle school and hearing the lunchroom fill with the sounds of everyone attempting to play the cup song. We sang along despite not knowing all the lyrics, and to this day I still know every word to the iconic riff-off. Pitch Perfect is one of the movies that almost everyone in my generation has seen, and rightfully so.

What makes the movie so perfect for the big screen is its clever blend of comedy and music. If the first time you are watching this movie is at home on your laptop, it would be easy to get distracted trying to look up who sings a certain song or who plays a certain character. You'll probably fall down a rabbit hole researching if someone on-screen was also in some random, obscure episode of your favorite show. In a movie theater, all these distractions are put away. You can enjoy the surround sound of the theater and let the vocals engulf you from all sides. Even better, you can let the songs get stuck in your head and bug everyone else on the car ride home.

In addition to the music, watching it by yourself just isn't as fun. In a theater, you get to have your friends beside you making small comments about what is going on. You get to laugh not only at the movie but oftentimes at the outrageous laugh of the guy next to you, which makes the movie that much funnier. When you watch it on the big screen for the first time you won't have to worry about watching it with a bunch of people who have seen it 1000 times before, and them ruining your experience.

Pitch Perfect is a generational movie that everyone will remember, and should definitely be watched on the big screen the first time you watch it. With the wise words of Aubrey, it is, "Aca-awesome".
