I think a film that MUST be seen on the big screen is Spider-Man Into the Spider Verse for its visual, audio and music design. I wanted to pick a film that I had personally seen at the cinema, taking advantage of my 4 year time working at the Brenden Theaters. With my 4 years work experience, I have had the opportunity to watch many films, whether that be in parts or in full. Given this essay question and all the movies I had witnessed over the past few years, the film that stuck out to me for this paper was Spider-Man Into the Spider Verse. A movie that follows a Black, Puerto Rican teen who is trying to navigate who he is with his newfound super powers, while also trying to save the world from collapsing in upon itself, alongside other spider characters from different universes.

When it comes to the audio of this film, Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse has a very unique sound regarding its music effects and style choices. Given its eerie, mechanical distortion, blended with a symphonic band and modern hip hop, this film's audio sticks out in comparison to other films I have watched. The way this movie's audio wraps around and swallows you into the film, in a way that can't be experienced at home, is quite amazing. I truly feel like this is a film that needs to be viewed on the big screen since the cinema has strong enough speakers to capture the full potential and power this music holds. The Prowler's theme is a music motif that can be heard throughout the movie, the way that the song's mechanical wailing travels from the back of one side of the theater, wrapping around you to the other side is such a unique euphonic and captivating experience. I have seen this movie quite a few times since its release from theaters and my movie watching experience has not been the same since. Yes the movie is still enjoyable to watch at home but without the cinema room, big screen and theater speakers, this movie's energy cannot be captured in the same way with just a TV or smaller at home device.  

This movie's uniqueness also blends over into its visual appeal. Being an Animated Award Winning Film, having a distinct art style with hand drawn scenes that makes this film feel ripped right out of a comic book, allows this to be a truly visually stimulating event. Any shot from this film looks like a stand alone hand drawn piece of art work rather than a freeze frame from an animated movie. Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse also has some cinematically beautiful animated shots, from the iconic leap of faith, to the fighting, chasing and emotional scenes. Being an animated movie, this film was made with the intent of being seen on a big screen first. With as much detail as this movie has, those details can be washed out or missed if someone were to watch this film at home first on a smaller device.

There are many films that can be enjoyable at home and in theaters, but there are definitely some that just NEED to be experienced in a cinema setting. I believe Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse is one of those films, with its unique audio and musical effects to its outstanding visual style, this MUST be seen in theaters at least once.
