Jeff Park

From the loud drums echoing throughout the auditorium, to the recreated atmosphere of the blinding sun in the desert, Dune a beautifully executed film, portrays a young man who is destined to be the Duke of his clan. They travel to the most dangerous planet in search of spice to ensure the future of his people, only to be unexpectedly ambushed by a malevolent force breeding theories and suspense. Watching Dune in the theaters is a completely different experience from watching it on Youtube. Especially the theater that I watched it in, watching the first showing with only a few people in the theater is the most satisfying feeling. Like a treasure you find to keep to yourself, you feel like a secret society of only those who truly appreciate such art. From the very beginning to the very end, the beautifully orchestrated vocals and drums created a tribal environment that felt as though it took inspiration from Egyptian culture. From the drums that could rev up anyone feeling the same adrenaline surge that the main character did when experiencing his newfound power, to the singing lulling us into a trance that makes us feel like we are experiencing the same fantasy the characters are feeling. From the power to command, to the tribal respectful duels of fate. The same intensity cannot be portrayed by a computer screen or a phone screen. When we watch this movie in the theater, we immerse ourselves into the world of Dune almost being a part of the world building they encompass us into. The magic from watching in the theaters cannot be replicated anywhere else, like having the first love of your life. We only get that feeling once and it goes away after your first time experiencing such a thing.

Being in your own comfort at home or on the go watching a movie such as Dune is like spoiling a perfectly cooked steak. We can unanimously agree that movies that tell a deep and unique story belong in the theaters. For example, when we watch Star Wars we had to see it on the big screen not only because we immerse ourselves into the universe they create. But the community we watch these movies with, having people who also experience the same feelings of joy, anger, sadness, and excitement is the most compelling part of going to a movie. Not only that, but it may even create relationships between people. Not only that, but who doesn't wanna sit on a comfortable reclining chair with a large ice cold Pepsi and a tub of buttery popcorn while watching a great movie? I can't find a single person who wouldn't.
