Behind the Curtains Banner

How many years have you worked in the Movie Theatre Industry and how did you first become involved?
I have been in the movie industry for 18 years.  A friend of mine asked if I would be interested in a part-time job at a movie theatre and the rest is history! As a floor staff member, I was part of the opening team at Pacific Theatres Northridge Fashion Center 10. From there, I became part of the management team and worked at several different Pacific Theatres locations. In 2007, I arrived at Landmark Theatres where I am presently the West Regional Director.

What’s the best part of your Job?
Being able to do what I love while surrounded by such great people is the best part of my job. The movie exhibition industry brings such a diverse and dynamic group together that all share a passion for film, which helps make being a theatre operator the best! I have been afforded the opportunity to work with so many wonderful people which includes the teams at all the different locations, the partners that support our industry, and the vibrant film community.

What is your fondest movie theatre memory?
I know this may sound a bit silly, but I was really excited when the 90’s classic Clueless was shown at Landmark’s Nuart Theatre. My friends and I gathered in our best 90s fashion and practically cited all the lines from the movie. It was nostalgia at its finest.

How old were you when you went to your first movie? Do you remember the theatre and the city?
Let’s just say I had to pay for a seat, but was too young and very afraid when I learned what happened when you feed a pet after midnight. (Gremlins in 1984 Panorama City, California).

What is your favorite movie of all time? What is it about this movie that stands out for you?
There are so many films that I call my favorite so I am going to share the first film that made an impact. I first saw the movie Stand By Me after its theatrical release on VHS. The film had it all...adventure, mystery, friendship, just to name a few. The film was an emotional learning experience and helped prepare me for the pre-teen years.

Do you have any special interests?  What are they?
Like putting on a great show, I very much enjoy planning events. One of my best friends owns a wedding coordination company where I have had numerous experiences working with a solid team to pull off that special day.

On a different note, I am intrigued by and have an affection for the history of all things. I love learning about different cultures through food, travel and adventure.

Is there anything else that you would like to share about yourself?
I would not be where I am in my career if it were not for the support of many folks in this industry. They know who they are and in case they are reading this...Thank you.

What does being a member of NATO of CA/NV mean to you?
I have created so many relationships by being a member of NATO of CA/NV. NATO of CA/NV, specifically Milt and Charlene have been such a support and resource.

Various chains all operate under their own values, policies and vision. Being a member provides a common ground where we can all learn and celebrate the industry together versus competing with each other.

Of all the resources that the Association offers (seminars, scholarships, email advisories, etc.) which is most useful for you?
It is a bit challenging to name which is the most useful; however, I find the seminars and email advisories to be beneficial. As an operator, I rely on the seminars and email advisories to keep me cognizant on what affects the movie business. There is a base formula to our business—however, with fast changing times come innovation, cutting edge technology, evolving amenities, and new laws. NATO of CA/NV keeps me informed.

NATO of CA/NV is such a support not only by providing information, but also by leading the charge for its members. I was fortunate enough last year to work closely alongside Milt with NATO of CA/NV, AMC, and Cinemark in standing up against a group that felt they knew our business. Progress was made by not only the 3 operators working together, but through the leadership and support of NATO of CA/NV.
